Smart Signs Historic MOU with the Republic of Nauru

On 7 May 2026, Smart Commercial Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Nauru at the Smart Energy Council Expo in Sydney. It was, as our MD Huon Hoogesteger put it, not something you do every day...

Thank you for your immense support! The Anthill Award 2015 results are announced this afternoon and we are proud to announce that Smart Commercial Solar's PayG took third place in a very competitive field in Anthill's Top 100 Smart Services category.

This recognition was a significant achievement for Smart Commercial Solar and an important milestone in the development of our PayG Solar model. Being ranked third in Anthill's highly competitive Smart 100 Services category highlighted the growing industry recognition of innovative approaches that make renewable energy more accessible for Australian businesses.

The Anthill Smart 100 Awards celebrate some of Australia's most innovative products, services, and business solutions. The program recognises organisations that are developing new ways to solve challenges, improve business performance, and create meaningful value for customers. To be recognised among the country's leading service innovations was a strong endorsement of the vision behind PayG Solar and its potential to transform how businesses access clean energy.

At the time, one of the biggest barriers preventing organisations from adopting commercial solar was the upfront capital investment often required to purchase and install a system. While the long-term financial benefits of solar were well understood, many businesses faced competing priorities for capital expenditure and were unable to justify large upfront energy investments.

PayG Solar was developed to address this challenge by creating a more flexible pathway for businesses to access renewable energy. Rather than requiring significant upfront spending, the model was designed to help organisations benefit from solar energy while aligning costs more closely with operational budgets and cash flow requirements. This innovative approach opened the door for more businesses to participate in Australia's growing renewable energy sector.

The recognition from Anthill was particularly rewarding because it acknowledged not only the commercial success of the model but also its practical impact. Innovation is most valuable when it delivers real-world outcomes, and PayG Solar was created with the goal of helping businesses reduce energy costs, improve financial certainty, and strengthen their long-term sustainability performance.

While awards are always appreciated, the greatest achievement has been seeing innovative energy solutions create tangible benefits for Australian businesses. Recognition such as the Anthill Smart 100 Awards, reinforces the importance of continuing to challenge traditional approaches and develop new ways to support the adoption of commercial solar and energy innovation across Australia.

We are grateful for the support that contributed to this achievement and proud to see PayG Solar recognised among Australia's leading business innovations.
