Solar and Battery Systems for Melbourne Businesses

Commercial Solar Melbourne

Commercial Solar and Battery Systems Built for Melbourne

Melbourne still makes things. From the factory belt of the south-east to the warehouses spreading across the western suburbs, Victorian manufacturers, food producers and distributors are carrying energy bills that keep climbing, along with network and demand charges that punish every production peak.

Since 2012 we have designed and installed commercial solar and battery systems for Victorian manufacturers, breweries, schools and councils. We start with your energy data and design one combined system around how your site actually runs, shift by shift.

The South-East: Melbourne's Manufacturing Heartland

Rowville, Dandenong South, Braeside and Bayswater make up one of the biggest industrial belts in the country, packed with fabricators, bakeries, food processors and engineering firms. These sites run long daytime shifts under big roofs, which makes them ideal for large-scale solar, and a battery helps smooth the production peaks that inflate demand charges.

It is also home to one of our largest manufacturing projects. The VENTORA Group, Australia's largest manufacturer of windows and doors, has a major manufacturing site in Rowville. We delivered a 3MW solar rollout across seven of its manufacturing sites in three states through a zero-capex Power Purchase Agreement, installed safely inside live production environments without interrupting manufacturing or logistics.

Down the road in Dandenong South, food manufacturer ARYZTA came to us to fight rising energy costs. When structural checks showed the roof couldn't carry the system first proposed, we redesigned it to deliver 360kW the building could safely support.

Food, Beverage and Brewing

Victoria's food and drink producers carry heavy loads for refrigeration, cooking and packaging, often around the clock, which makes every kilowatt of daytime solar and every hour of stored battery energy count.

In Ballarat, McCain Foods combined 7.5MW of solar with 1.2MW of biogas cogeneration. Closer to town, Carlton & United Breweries' Abbotsford brewery is part of a three-site solar PPA that we own, operate and maintain, with no upfront cost to CUB.

Inner Melbourne: Schools, Councils and Heritage Buildings

Closer to the city the challenge shifts from scale to finesse. For the City of Yarra we installed solar across seven council sites, including the heritage-listed Richmond Town Hall with its unusual roof angles, as part of the council's goal of becoming carbon neutral. At Lauriston Girls' School, 189kW of rooftop solar is saving around $50,000 a year.

The West and the North

The logistics hubs of Laverton North, Derrimut and Truganina and the manufacturing precincts of Campbellfield and Thomastown have some of the biggest roofs in Melbourne, and many of them are still sitting idle. If your warehouse or plant is in the western or northern suburbs, that roof could be your cheapest source of power.

Solar Through a Melbourne Winter

Melbourne's grey winters have given it an undeserved reputation as a poor place for solar. Systems are designed on a full year of generation, and long, bright summer days and strong output through spring and autumn mean a well-designed commercial system pays its way. A battery helps you bank the midday surplus for the evening peak, and with Smart Stack battery monetisation it can earn revenue too.

Victorian Incentives and Finance

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program can reduce the cost of eligible upgrades through Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs). Read our guide to how Victorian businesses can take advantage of VEECs, or visit our energy rebates and incentives page. Like VENTORA and CUB, you can also go solar through a Power Purchase Agreement with no upfront capital.

Melbourne Commercial Solar FAQs

Can you install solar without stopping production?

Yes. We plan every installation around your production schedule and site safety rules, just as we did across VENTORA's seven live manufacturing sites, so your lines keep running while the system goes in.

Is commercial solar worth it in Melbourne?

For most daytime-heavy businesses, yes. Output dips in the shorter winter months, but the annual numbers are what count, and pairing solar with a battery lets you capture more value from every sunny day.

How much does commercial solar cost in Melbourne?

It depends on system size, roof or ground space and whether battery storage is included. We prepare a detailed energy analysis and financial model before you commit, and finance options can remove the upfront cost entirely.
