Commercial Solar Adelaide

Commercial Solar and Battery Systems Built for Adelaide

South Australia runs on more wind and solar than any other state, yet many businesses still pay some of the highest power prices in the country. The reason is timing: cheap renewable energy floods the grid in the middle of the day, and prices climb steeply once the sun goes down. A site that generates and stores its own energy stops paying for that gap.

Since 2012 we have designed and installed commercial solar and battery systems for South Australian farms, cold storage operators, manufacturers and entertainment venues, and every project starts with how your site actually uses energy.

The Adelaide Plains: Poultry and Agriculture

North of the city, the Adelaide Plains around Two Wells, Mallala and Roseworthy are one of the country's major poultry-growing regions. Chicken sheds depend on ventilation, lighting and climate control around the clock, and a power failure is never an option, which makes reliable on-site energy a serious business decision rather than a nice-to-have.

We have delivered a 6MW solar program for ProTen across 24 farms in South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia, saving around $2,450 a day and 4,009 tonnes of CO2 a year. Every installation went in inside working chicken farms under strict biosecurity controls, with zero tolerance for downtime to ventilation and live birds. Rural grids often have limited capacity, so we also design for zero export and power quality where the network needs it.

Northern Adelaide: Manufacturing, Logistics and Cold Storage

The northern suburbs are Adelaide's industrial heart. Edinburgh, Elizabeth, Salisbury, Gepps Cross, Wingfield and Regency Park are home to food processors, advanced manufacturers, distribution centres and cold stores, with long operating hours and big, flat roofs that suit large-scale solar.

At Edinburgh Park, global cold storage operator Lineage installed a 1MW rooftop system as part of its push towards a net-zero cold chain. Cold storage runs around the clock, so pairing solar with a battery to carry cheap daytime energy into the evening is where the biggest savings sit.

Southern Adelaide, the Port and Entertainment Venues

The manufacturing precinct at Lonsdale, the port and logistics hub around Port Adelaide and the city's retail and entertainment venues share the same problem: energy-hungry sites paying peak prices. Entertainment venues in particular run lighting, air conditioning and kitchens well into the night, straight through the evening price peak.

With energy price rises hitting South Australian businesses hard, AMF Bowling wanted solar without tying up capital. We delivered a 200kW rooftop system through a $0 upfront Power Purchase Agreement, and with the first sites delivering encouraging results, more are planned.

Why Batteries Matter More in South Australia

With so much rooftop solar and wind on the South Australian grid, midday power is often cheap and evening power is not. A battery lets you store your own solar at lunchtime and use it through the evening peak, and with Smart Stack battery monetisation it can also earn revenue by helping keep the grid stable, which matters in a state that leans so heavily on renewables.

We check which government incentives your site may be eligible for as part of your energy analysis. Like AMF Bowling, you can also go solar through a Power Purchase Agreement with no upfront capital.

Adelaide Commercial Solar FAQs

Can solar be installed on a working poultry farm?

Yes. We plan every installation around biosecurity protocols, ventilation and live birds, as we did across ProTen's 24 farms, so there is no disruption to the flock or the business. Ground-mounted arrays and zero-export designs help where shed roofs or rural grid capacity are limited.

Is a battery worth it in South Australia?

Often, yes. The gap between cheap midday power and expensive evening power is particularly pronounced in South Australia, and that gap is exactly what a battery is designed to close. Battery monetisation can add a further revenue stream on top.

How much does commercial solar cost in Adelaide?

It depends on system size, roof or ground space and whether battery storage is included. We prepare a detailed energy analysis and financial model before you commit, and finance options can remove the upfront cost entirely.
