NSW PDRS Business Battery Incentive: What Every Business Needs to Know

The NSW Government has finally come to the table with a battery rebate for businesses: the Energy Security Safeguard scheme, published July 1, 2026. Discover how it works, who's eligible, expected incentive values, and h...

In a rapidly growing clean energy market, independent recognition matters—and in 2024, Smart Commercial Solar emerged as an industry leader, earning top national honours in two key categories at the SunWiz Top Solar Retailer Awards.

The SunWiz Awards are the most credible independent benchmark for high-performing solar retailers in Australia. Announced at the Smart Energy Expo each year, they are based on verified installation data and market performance, and reflect not just size but quality, capability, and impact.

We’re proud to share that we’ve been awarded:

- #1 Commercial Storage – National

- #1 Commercial LGC Segment – 501kW to 1000kW

We're also placed in several other categories:

- Top 5 Overall National

- Top 5 Commercial National

- Top 5 NSW

- Top 5 Sub-100kW NT

This is the first year we have achieved These results. They are a testament to the strength of our team, the trust of our clients, and our commitment to delivering commercial energy solutions that make a difference—both financially and environmentally.

Powering Australia's C&I Energy Transition

This year marked a historic milestone for Australia’s clean energy sector, with commercial and industrial (C&I) solar installations exceeding 1GW in a single calendar year for the first time.

It’s a clear signal that solar and storage are no longer fringe investments—they’re core infrastructure for modern businesses navigating energy cost pressures, emissions reduction targets, and new reporting requirements.

Smart is proud to have played a leadership role in this shift, delivering some of the most complex and impactful C&I projects in the country.

Project Highlights from 2024

Agright Meriki – 4MW

This groundbreaking project delivered Australia’s largest off-grid livestock operation. A custom-engineered solar and battery microgrid powers irrigation, feed production, and water supply, proving that clean energy is viable even in the most remote, high-demand environments.

Western Sydney International Airport

As part of one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the country, our solar installation supports the airport’s long-term sustainability objectives and showcases the role of renewables in future-focused design.

AstraZeneca, Sydney - 617kW

This elegant solar car shade installation offsets emissions while providing comfort for staff and visitors—demonstrating that sustainability and aesthetics can go hand in hand at a corporate scale.

What It Means

Smart Commercial Solar Managing Director Huon Hoogesteger summed it up.

“Awards are good, but they’re not the goal. The goal is helping businesses take control of their energy. This just tells us we’re doing that at scale and doing it well.”

As we move further into the era of mandatory ESG reporting and grid decarbonisation, businesses need energy partners who can deliver results—not just panels. These awards reinforce our position as Australia’s go-to experts for commercial solar, storage, and energy strategy.

Thank you to the SunWiz team for championing transparency and performance across the sector—and to our clients and partners for trusting us to help shape their energy future.
